Before & After Bathroom Transformation

Updated: Oct 4

Are you looking to revamp your bathroom? Updating any space in your home is always exciting and your bathroom is a project that can significantly improve your home's overall value and of course your every day enjoyment. Carefully considering the layout, materials, color scheme, lighting, and accessories, you can create a bathroom that is not only functional but also a personal sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation. Here is an idea to transform your toilet room. This often-overlooked area can be transformed into a functional and stylish area with more storage that not only maximizes your bathroom space but also enhances its overall aesthetics.

Think about the color scheme and materials you want to incorporate. I really love a printed wall paper however, being my walls are textured, I decided to go another route. I first headed to my local hardware store to grab some materials.

I wanted some definition with a wood border/trim to define and break up the upper and lower area. This also adds character. I decided to use two paint colors. The top portion matches the paint I used above the vanity in the main bathroom area. The one for the bottom half matches with my bedroom. This ties in both areas to keep a flow to the whole as you walk thru.

Now that the painting and trim work are completed, it's time to decorate!

Unsure how to utilize the area above your toilet? Sometimes finding the right thing is difficult especially when the room is small.

Consider Shelves. This seemed to be the best solution for the most function and design in this case.

There are many types of shelves to choose from. It was important to me that the shelves in this set up go full length, wall to wall. This gives the illusion that the bathroom is wider. If you're looking for a specific size and can't seem to find it, it's time to head to your local hardware store. Simply select a plank of wood of your liking. There are many types of woods and thickness' to choose from. Look for wood types that complement your bathroom décor, whether you prefer a rustic, modern, or traditional style. Once you have selected the wood, you can have it cut to fit the specific dimensions of the space needed, ensuring a perfect fit that looks custom-made.

In this case, I wanted a distressed look and a wood that matches with the wood stains in my bedroom. I decided on a cedar wood species. My bathroom is open to my bedroom so it coordinates perfectly together. I started sanding the wood plank pieces until I was satisfied with the result. This process involved using various grits of sandpaper to create a textured finish that adds character and warmth to the shelves. After sanding, I used a hammer to hit and dent the wood for an even more aged look. The final product not only serves as a practical storage solution but also acts as a decorative element, showcasing decorative and functional items.

Lastly, accessorizing your bathroom with stylish storage solutions, decorative elements, and greenery can further enhance its appeal. Adding baskets etc. can help keep the space organized while also providing an opportunity to showcase decorative items.

decorating & organizing your own space.
