Inspired Experiences - Adventures in Puerto Rico

Inspiration comes from a variety of sources. I find it in a simple walk on the beach, reading an engaging book, or even window shopping. Traveling to new destinations definitely ignites my creativity. It's refreshing to immerse in a different reality, which revitalizes and motivates me, and is a great creative reset. This, in turn, influences my home décor, the food I'm eager to recreate, and the inspiration from others during my travels.

Our adventure to Puerto Rico was an absolute blast. I scoped out some of the best places to experience, thanks to recommendations from family and friends.

When initially planning, I really wanted to get the most from the island in a short visit. So we decided to stay in the Dorado area. This is apparently known as a fishing town and roughly located about center on the northern side of the island. This turned out to be the perfect location for all that we wanted to see.

Day 1 Adventure: Discovering the Natural Wonders of the West Side

On our first day, we set out on an exciting journey to the west side of the island, a region known for its stunning natural beauty, particularly its breathtaking waterfalls and pristine beaches. As we navigated the narrow roads we were certainly excited. We heard from friends and family that this area was a treasure trove of natural wonders, and we were eager to explore.

Our first destination was Cascada Gozalandia, a waterfall that had been highly recommended to us. As we arrived, we were greeted by a gentlemen who gave us some insight on the area and what to expect. The path leading to the waterfall was a short and easy walk.

After spending some time enjoying the waterfalls, we took a few moments to capture the beauty around us with photographs, ensuring that we could remember this incredible experience for years to come. It was a perfect start to our adventure, and we felt grateful for the opportunity to witness such natural beauty.

The day was still young, and we were eager to explore more of what the west side had to offer, including the best beaches that we had heard so much about. With our spirits high and our hearts full, we set off once again, excited for the new experiences that awaited us.

We headed a bit more west to the Aguadilla area to see the beaches we heard so much about. This region is renowned for its stunning coastline. Our destination was Survival Beach, a hidden gem that promises both adventure and breathtaking views. This beach is not just a typical sunbathing spot; it is known for its rugged terrain and the challenges it poses to those who seek to reach it.

As we embarked on our journey, we were informed that the hike to Survival Beach was only a half mile long. However, what we didn't fully grasp at the outset was the nature of this hike. The path quickly turned into a thrilling trek along the edge of a steep cliff, with the ocean roaring below us. The trail was not well-marked, and we found ourselves navigating through rocky outcrops and dense vegetation, which added to the sense of adventure but also tested our stamina and determination.

The views along the way were nothing short of spectacular. As we climbed higher, we could see the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, while we were surrounded by greenery and cliffs. The sound of waves crashing against the rocks below enhanced the thrill of our hike.

Despite the beauty of the surroundings, the hike proved to be more strenuous than we anticipated. I quickly realized that my preparation had been lacking. The lesson I learned that day was - Always bring more water.

At last, after what seemed like an endless climb and navigating around rocky ledges, we arrived at the beach. The sight that greeted us was worth every ounce of effort. This is undoubtedly the most stunning beach I've ever seen.

Day 2 Adventure: Discovering Old San Juan

On our second day, we made a conscious decision to embrace our roles as tourists and explore the enchanting streets of Old San Juan. This historic area, with its rich cultural heritage and vibrant atmosphere, is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Puerto Rico. Stepping into Old San Juan is like stepping back in time, as the cobblestone streets and colorful buildings transport you to a different era. The charm of the city is undeniable, and we were eager to immerse ourselves in its beauty.

As we strolled through the narrow streets, taking in the architecture around us. The buildings had an abundance of beautiful colors. We took our time wandering and admiring the details. The atmosphere was lively, filled with laughter, music, and the chatter of locals and visitors alike, creating an inviting and warm environment.

We also took the opportunity to sample some of the local cuisine. The food scene in Old San Juan is a delightful fusion of flavors, with many restaurants offering traditional Puerto Rican dishes.

And of course, no visit to Puerto Rico would be complete without indulging in the island's signature cocktail: the original Piña Colada. We sought out a local bar known for its authentic take on this iconic drink. As we took our first sips, we were instantly transported to a tropical paradise. The perfect blend of fresh pineapple juice, coconut cream, and rum created a refreshing and delicious experience that was simply unforgettable. The creamy texture and sweet flavor made it a delightful treat, and we couldn't help but raise our glasses to the beauty of Old San Juan.

Day 3 Adventure: Discovering the Natural Wonders of the East

It was time to venture east. My deep appreciation for nature propelled us towards one of the most iconic destinations on the island: El Yunque National Rainforest. This lush paradise was undoubtedly at the top of our list of places to explore, and I had been eagerly anticipating this moment for quite some time.

The hike through the rainforest was truly majestic. Towering trees, and tons of greenery surrounded us through the path. Ironically, despite the fact that we were in the midst of July's summer heat, the temperature within the rainforest was surprisingly cool and refreshing. The humidity was balanced by the shade, making our hike comfortable and enjoyable. We paused frequently to take in the sights. And actually didn't see as much wildlife as I'd hoped.

As we continued our journey, we made our way to one of the highest points, at an overlook. The view was simply breathtaking.

Walking thru El Yunque National Rainforest

After our hike we treated ourselves and sought out a quaint little eatery close by that we heard about through a friend.

To compliment our adventure, we ordered refreshing coconut mojitos, a delightful twist on the classic cocktail. The bartender expertly mixed fresh mint, lime juice, and coconut water, creating a drink that was both refreshing and invigorating after our hike. The combination of flavors was a perfect match for the warm, sunny day, and we savored each sip as we relaxed and recounted our favorite moments from the hike.

Dinner on our Last Night

We chose Kikita Beach House for our final night's dinner, and it exceeded our expectations in every possible way. From the moment we stepped inside, we were enveloped by an inviting atmosphere that perfectly blended casual beach vibes with a touch of elegance.

While the restaurant is situated in a seemingly ordinary neighborhood as you park and walk towards it, it is positioned right on the waterfront, offering a stunning view that makes the journey worthwhile. The panoramic view was...let's just say if I wasn't already married I would have thought I was going to be proposed to. And yes, it would be a great place for that. The atmosphere was phenomenal.
