It’s always fun to see what you can turn something into, whether it’s through a simple act of repurposing an everyday object, reimagining a common recipe, or even altering a typical routine.

The Accent Table

I scored this beauty from a model home sale, which always has fun finds. Model homes are often filled with beautifully curated furniture and décor, showcasing lots of the latest trends and styles.

When I first saw this table, I immediately recognized its potential. Even though I knew the finish was a bit too dark, I also knew that with a little creativity and effort, I could transform it into something that was truly perfect for me. I began to brainstorm ideas for a makeover, considering various paint colors and/or staining techniques. The thought of turning this overlooked piece into a statement item in my home excited me, and I couldn’t wait to get started on this DIY project. With the right materials and a clear vision, I was confident that I could create something that not only suited my taste but also added a unique touch to my décor.

For this piece, I opted for chalk paint. If you haven't tried chalk paint, its an easy to apply, quick drying paint. This is an ideal option when you want to minimize sanding and jump straight into applying color. We all want to see results faster. I chose an off-white shade and, as you can see, after just a light sanding, began brushing on the paint.

After finishing the main painting, I added a bit of distressing, by further sanding until I achieved the desired appearance. I then applied a wax coat for the final touch. The result was stunning and surpassed my expectations.

This accent table has been a nightstand for a guest room and an end table in different houses. It certainly has become a fantastic staple item that matches perfectly with my décor.
